what are the haters

Haters are different from someone who simply doesn't like or enjoy something and moves on. They are different from someone who passes a positive or negative personal judgement on something.

Haters generally have few accomplishments themselves, especially related to what they are hating on. There can be endless speculation about what motivates haters, from personal issues to plain old sadistic tendencies. They generally represent the less intelligent and less educated.

Some want to confuse internet hacktivism with internet hate. Hacktivism requires skill and intelligence, while hate requires ignorance. Hacktivism sometimes targets an enemy. Juvenile hate targets someone who is not an enemy of anything, for no reason. The small-minded are easy to jump on a hate bandwagon. Mob mentality sometimes rules on the internet.

The haters are fundamentally unable to appreciate what they are seeing. Haters are, after all, very ignorant and prone to a herd mentality. Their scope of reality is narrow, limited by the dictates of mass media and groupthink.

Haters are similar to the proverbial cavemen who, if presented with a cell phone or a laptop computer, would end up smashing it because they don't understand it. It has odd sounds and lights. They have no way to appreciate it.

The truth is that Laura won at the YouTube game. She's had view counts rivaling top channels, had videos on featured pages, and not to mention made thousands of dollars. Right now there is a dim-witted punk sitting at his/her computer who just can't stand it. LOL

I agree with that.

Some people hate because they have insecurities and problems and attempt to make themselves feel better by trying to destroy others, and then there are some people who are just plain evil, have no remorse and bully people because that is their nature and they get a rise out of insulting and ruining people's lives and probably just don't understand the person that they're hating on.

Sometimes the best thing to do is to deal with them directly, I know violence is wrong and may cause more problems, but if you just sit there and take it, it will most likely get worse and never go away.

Maybe that applies in this case, but I'm not so sure to be honest.

Most of these haters are weak morons and it would be simple to handle them face to face.

In the cyber-world bullies get their satisfaction from the responses they get.  They are weak little morons who feel power by being cruel or whatever, and they feel more power by getting a response that indicates they are effective.

Yes they do have insecurities and problems and attempt to make themselves feel better by trying to destroy others.   How to deal with them is an interesting question, I think most important is to deny them the reaction they crave: they crave something that shows they are having an effect. Either ignore them, or even troll them.

Dealing with bullies on IRC is funny because they're usually not very smart and it's easy to make them angry.  And you can tell when they get angry, they start making all kinds of typos or typing in all caps.  Hilarious.
